BIG IDEA: Jesus’ concept of true prayer includes principles and a pattern.

*The six principles of true prayer in Jesus’ response:

1. Regular prayer can be counted on. (v.5a)
2. Performative prayer must be condemned. (v.5,6)
3. Some prayer can be corporate. (v.7a)
4. Effective prayer can be concise. (v.7b-8)
5. The approach of prayer must be kinship-based. (v.8b)
6. The manner of prayer can be conventional. (v.9a)

For God’s Glory:

1. A petition about God’s character.
2. A petition about God’s kingdom.
3. A petition about God’s commands.

For Our Good:

1. A petition about our daily conditions.
2. A petition about our past crimes.
3. A petition about our future crucibles.
